1 Nov 2021 An Anti-Aging Treatment for Optimal Health

An anti-aging treatment in our office can help turn back time — figuratively, at least. Due to modern-day risk factors, people are showing signs of aging earlier than ever before. While many people are only worried about the cosmetic signs of aging, like fine lines and wrinkles, health-threatening signs, like chronic inflammation and body pain, should be addressed and treated as well.

Risk factors for premature aging

1. The sun

Exposure to the sun is one of the leading causes of skin damage and wrinkles. Those who strive to live a healthy lifestyle but spend too much time in the sun without protection may look older than their age due to the effects of sun damage. Applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 15 throughout the day can help combat the effects of sun exposure. Seeking shade or staying indoors during the most UV-ray-damaging time of the day, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., is also advised.

2. Diet

A diet poor in nutritional value is one of the biggest contributors to aging inside the body and on the skin. Some people who are thin and “fit” assume they are not at risk for premature aging. But while many people who are thin may not overeat, they do not eat foods full in nutrients, causing a depletion of vitamins and minerals. When this happens, the body cannot function at its optimal capacity.

3. Obesity

Obesity puts people at risk for a variety of health conditions that can lead to premature death. According to Centers for Disease Control and Protections studies on adult obesity, more than one-third of adults in the United States are obese (https://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html). These people are now predisposed to struggle with diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure and a variety of other health conditions that are hard on the body, causing premature aging.

4. Not enough sleep

A lack of sleep may also contribute to premature aging. With lack of rest, the body cannot turn over old cells and create new ones, fight oxidative stress and process normal brain functions.

5. Oxidative stress

Oxidative stress is an imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants within the body. It is essentially a culmination of the above risk factors and their effect on the body. With too many free radicals, unstable molecules created as a byproduct of mitochondrial work, and not enough antioxidants, a molecule that prevents the oxidation of cells, the body’s cells are damaged, resulting in aging.

Anti-aging treatment

While this list of risk factors for premature aging is not all-inclusive, it is a good place to start. Limiting exposure to smoking, alcohol use and drug use may also inhibit aging. A visit to our office and an aging analysis will provide more information about whether you are prematurely aging and how it can be prevented.

To look your best and feel healthy for as long as possible, schedule an appointment today for an anti-aging treatment.
