1 Nov 2021 Tapeworms Found in North American Salmon
A species of tapeworm thought previously to only infect fish in Asia has been discovered in North American salmon from Alaska and the Pacific coast.
Eating raw or undercooked salmon places you at high risk for tapeworm infection. Be very cautious eating raw salmon such as in sushi. Always make sure your salmon is cooked thoroughly, and keep uncooked fish AWAY from cooked meat or fish.
Although intestinal tapeworm infections are usually mild, it’s often difficult to tell if you have an infection. Symptoms are usually quite vague – anything from fatigue and abdominal pain to blood and mucus found in your stool. If you suspect you may have an intestinal parasite infection, visit your doctor right away.
There are also natural remedies for expelling parasites, which I will list below:
- Coconut oil
- Dried coconut
- Ginger
- Wormwood bark
- Raw garlic
- Unripe papaya and seeds
- Pumpkin seeds
- Cloves
- Fresh turmeric
